JW Brocklehurst – Building our new premises

JW Brocklehurst Ltd has embarked on its’ next chapter of development with the intention of future proofing our existence for the next century. Having Operated from the same site for the last 100 + years with a building that has served many purposes, it is now time for a dedicated new facility designed and constructed solely for the funeral business. Below is a 3D rendered image of the new building, which we expect will be completed and occupied by the summer of 2021.

The first bold steps to clear the site are underway.

Sadly COVID-19 has brought the work on our site to a halt for the foreseeable future.

We are very relieved to say that Building work has restarted on our site and we can see the start of things to come. The building outline has been marked out by GPS equipment to a very high accuracy. Due to the sloping site and the size, the footings will be done in stages.

They say Rome wasn’t built in a day but we are making good progress. The ground floor beam and block is installed and site has now become a clean and safe area. The structural wall is constructed using a system called Insulated Concrete Form (ICF). This is a very efficient method of construction compared to traditional block, creating a warm airtight and very strong structure.

The perimeter walls take time to set out the first course but then large sections are built in a matter of hours. The whole of the ground floor has been built in ICF and filled with concrete in preparation for the first floor installation. Two local companies continue to support us fanastically well, Cemex concrete and Joe Macfarlane concrete pumping services.
